Food Journal Challenge

Summer Food Journal Challenge📔🍓🥗

Sweet friend,

A new week and fresh start is upon us! We have hope that change can happen in and out of the studio! Let's take ACTION in all areas of our lives and LIVE transformed. There is power in the present and there is such hope for the future!

This week, along with our 8-Week Summer Transformation Challenge we are ready to fire you up with the FOOD JOURNAL CHALLENGE. We love doing accountability checks like this because it helps us to refocus our minds; and to be intentional and mindful while eating. Making journaling a healthy habit can jump-start your transformation.

Remember that it's never too late to start changing your life for the better. Counting your macronutrients can propel your progress. Join the Food Journal Challenge starting Monday with us!
We RISE STRONGER TOGETHER.

💙Two favorite truths to encourage you to give your best daily and never give up! 💙

James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that thetesting of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

James 1:12 “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

What Is The Challenge?

Keep a food journal starting Monday and go through Friday, 5 DAYS! Download the free MyFitnessPal app and log your food, outlining the details of your meals and snacks throughout the day. You can also write down your nutrition in the notes section of your phone and send us your journal Friday or Saturday! We want to help hold you accountable! The challenge is for YOU! So whether you choose to do 1 day or 5 days- come out of your comfort zone, be accountable and try something new!

Why Take The Challenge?

Using a food journal is the number one way you can take control of your healthy lifestyle. Everyone struggles with what we put in our mouths and self-awareness helps us to realize what food, beverages, and portion sizes we are actually fueling our body with daily. Journaling is an amazing tool for weight loss, assessing a food intolerance, or to treat a deficiency.  We have seen the MOST effective results with our nutrition clients who have kept a food journal and showed it to us weekly! The week of accountability can be one important key to unlock your success in reaching your personal goals.

You can live anywhere and take this challenge. No excuses, friends, you CAN DO this challenge!  We are here for you and will be your partner in this journey! Let’s do it –plan for it today, start tomorrow, Monday! Ready for a great week!

5 Helpful Tips to Get Started on the Food Journal Challenge!

  1. Download the MyFitnessPal app and create an account! You can also do a handwritten food journal if you don't care for the app.

  2. Commit to doing the food journal every day for 5 days.

  3. Write down 3 goals for the week right now, tell someone your goals, or text/email them to a TransFit Staff!

  4. Be honest! We are not judging you on what you eat- the challenge is for you to become a healthier person and by journaling, you will gain a greater awareness of what you are eating daily!

  5. Clean out the pantry and refrigerator. Start the week off right; any food or beverages that are tempting to you- TOSS! You don’t need it and neither does your family! Start the week fresh with a clean refrigerator and pantry so that you can restock with fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. YES, YOU CAN!

Holiday Extravaganza Countdown & 3 Healthy Thanksgiving Recipes!

Sweet friends! We are getting so close to the start of our Holiday Extravaganza Challenge! Can you believe it?? If you haven't yet- email me to set up a weigh-in appointment and join in on the party!! Email me at transfitathens@gmail.com.

If you are unsure- check out the results from last year here! AMAZING! Collectively, the participants lost 116 pounds!!!  To put that in perspective, 116 pounds of fat equates to roughly 738 Big Macs, 2,900 cans of Coke, or 3,867 bananas! Check out the winner from last year! Please read her story in the above link.

First prize wins the cash in the bucket!!! 2nd prize will be an entire outfit donated by Lulu Lemon Athens that you can pick out! 3rd & 4th prize will be some awesome gift baskets with donated items from local businesses! Super great prizes!! But the best prize - that you are feeling amazing January 1st 2016!

I am hearing so many great stories from you about the success you have had with your Food Journal Challenge this week which is GREAT practice for holding yourself accountable as you prepare for the holidays! You have a few days left- keep up the great work and email us photos of your journal (written or MyFitnessPal), we would LOVE to encourage you and praise you for your hard work!

As we look ahead to next week starting the challenge, we must start to think about the holiday season and what all it is going to hold. If you are like me, you've already begun to think about all the dishes you will have to prepare, events you will be going to and the full (yet wonderful!) schedule the next few weeks hold. Amidst all of this we have to stay focused on our goals and be diligent even through the holidays! Our client spotlight Tina Carpenter said in her article "Just live, learn and laugh along the way…and enjoy your life as you strive each day to be your best. If you are misguided or if you make mistakes, shake it off and get back on your bath to being the best you can be!" That is the mindset I encourage us all to have this season! There will be times when we will have a treat that maybe we didn't plan for or a day when we will miss a workout- BUT what is important is that you do not allow that to completely take your eyes off of your goals and your progress. If you put that small slip behind you but get right back on track, you will find that you are even better than before!! Patience and perseverance will be the name of the game!!

September Food Journal Results and The October Squat Showdown!

october-squat-challenge.jpg

September was a great month for TransFit and I'm so proud of everyone that joined me in the food journal challenge! I received so many updates from friends saying that once they started tracking their food, they started making some changes in their diets for the better!

This month's winners were:

  • Colleen Pruitt- winner of the Nutrition Consulting Session
  • Luci & Mac Furlow- winners of the $50 EarthFare gift card
  • Pam Adams- winner of $25 off her TransFit training sessions

Awesome job to everyone else who completed or tried the challenge! Alison Norris, Katie Woodall, Lauren McElhannon, Velena Vego, Lacy Sinkwich, Nancy  Deleski, Yvette Jackson, Judy Talton, Leslie Dorris. Katie Collins, & Kim Pittard- you all did amazing and I'm so proud of your hard work!

Now October is here and it's time for a new challenge! This month I wanted to focus on building strong legs, especially for those of you training for half or full marathons or 5k's. The October Squat Showdown is all about building a strong base through different squats and lunges so that we can be healthy and ready to tackle any challenges ahead.

Each week will have a different activity. You will do this activity every day for the week to really feel the burn and strengthen your muscles. The good news is every activity is simple and should only take a few minutes to add into your routine! Do some squats while folding laundry or do your lunges while cooking dinner. By the end of the month you will realize how easy it is to add some exercise into your daily routine. If you want an extra challenge, add in a few more squats or lunges each day!

Click on the calendar above to download a copy of this month's challenge and prepare to work those legs!

  1. Find a journal or app (Lose it, My Fitness Pal, Fitbit) that you like and will use weekly.(I use a small notebook that fits in my purse.) Here is a good guide for your journal:
  2. Commit to writing in the journal everyday.
  3. Write down yourgoals for the month of September on the first page!
  4. Be honest! I am not judging you on what you eat- the challenge is for you to become a healthier person and to teach you a greater awareness of what you are eating daily!

We are all too busy, too hectic, or too unorganized but let's challenge ourselves this month!  Start your September off right!

Proverbs 21:5 reminds us that, “Careful planning puts you ahead in the long run; hurry puts you further behind”.
